Taken from the Mother City Living ‘what’s on‘ calendar, here are some highlights for the weekend ahead.
Season of Sauvignon Festival.
13-14 September. Hillcrest Estate, Durbanville.
Food and wine festival on the Hillcrest Estate in Durbanville, with live music from Louise Carver. Taste wine and olives, buy local food at the ‘food lovers market’ or go on a 4×4 tour of the vineyards.
Tickets R100 at Computicket.
Swartland Show.
10-13 September. Moorreesburg.
Try some homemade meals like potjiekos, pancakes and braaivleis while strolling through the crafters’ markets, agricultural machinery and livestock exhibitions. A good way to see how farming works, if that sort of thing floats your boat. For more information contact Ian Koch: Tel: +27 (0)22 433 2461 or visit their website.
WineX Wine Festival.
CTICC. 10-12 September.
Annual wine festival held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. Personally, I think the Season of Sauvignon sounds like much more fun…
Caledon Wildflower Show.
12-15 September. Caledon.
You always hear about flowers on the west coast, but it seems the Overberg has its own spring display as well! About 600 species will be on display at the show. Phone 028 214 1016 for more info.
Organic markets
A weekend for me doesn’t feel complete without a visit to at least one market. On a beautiful day like tomorrow is forecast to be, I’d recommend the Porter Estate Produce Market in Tokai (see related posts), or, if you can handle the crowds, the ever-popular Neighbour Goods Market (see related posts) at the Old Biscuit Mill in Salt River.
Have a great weekend!
