Here comes the weekend! What’s on in and around Cape Town (28 August ’09)

Last weekend may have been quiet, but this one’s jam-packed with all kinds of activity.  So a little later than usual I’m afraid, here are the weekend’s highlights, from the Mother City Living events calendar.

Cape Farmhouse 3rd Birthday and Opening Party

Cape Farmhouse Restaurant, Junction M66 & M65, 3km past Scarborough.  Friday 28 August – 7.30pm.  R30. 021 780 1246. (more info)

A sure sign that summer is approaching – the fabulous Cape Farmhouse is gearing up for its new season of Farmhouse Rocks with an opening party and birthday bash.  “Dance the winter blues away with Local DJ Greg -The Mighty G. Two cash bars, downstairs and upstairs, gas heaters and lots of good friends!”

Nitida Farmers Market

Nitida Estate, Durbanville Wine Valley.  Saturday 29 August – 8.30am to 1pm (more info)

Monthly all-weather farmers’ market, held just outside Cape Town at  Nitida Wine Estate in the Durbanville Wine Valley.  Expect to find fresh produce, organic seedlings, free range eggs, a variety of gourmet goodies and much more.  And, this month the Streepmuis Deli will be in attendance, with all manner of seafood and fresh fish.  Contact: Getha Havenga on Nitida 021 976-1467; or email getha@nitida.co.za

Celebrate Life Festival

Michael Oak Waldorf School, Marlow Rd, Kenilworth.  All weekend – 29, 30 August – 10am-5pm. (more info)

Spoil your body.  Stretch your mind.  Feed your soul.  That’s the idea behind this festival of all things natural, organic and wholesome.  Some interesting talks and workshops, an organic market, and a whole bunch of holistic therapies on tap.  Entrance is R50 per day or R80 for a weekend pass, available at the door.

McGregor Food & Wine Festival

McGregor Village. Saturday 29 August – 10.30 to 5.30pm.  (more info)

McGregor holds their annual food and wine festival, showcasing the fine wines of the McGregor area as well as offering country fare and produce from their beautiful valley. Food, wine, fabulous setting… dang I wish I had been more organised!  Entrance fee: R50 including tasting glass.

Fashion Exchange at Ruby Tuesday

Ruby Tuesday, 166 2nd Ave, Kenilworth (where Banana Jam used to be). Saturday 29 August – 12noon.  (more info)

Up for rehashing your wardrobe the greenest way?  Swop a few items of clothing for something new at the Fashion Exchange.  It’s under new management, so I’m interested to see what they’ve got up their, um, sleeves.  Entrance is R65 at the door.

Intuitively Creative Delight Market

71 Main Road Fishhoek (glass door entrance between Engen petrol station and Cash Connection). Sunday 30 August – 1pm to 4pm.

A new little market in Fishhoek that I’ve not had the chance to check out yet…  “Come delight in books, arts and crafts, healing therapies, natural products, and more at Intuitively Creative Delight, an indoor market of compassionate Spirit, held the last Sunday of every month“.  Entrance is R5.
