The little Gardens Market that wasn’t…

The little Gardens Market that wasn't...

Okay, I humbly apologise to anyone who tried to go to the Gardens Market this morning… If you did, like me you will have discovered that there wasn’t a stall in sight – no organic vegetables, no hand-made crafts, NOTHING.

So, I can only assume that either they had some trouble gathering traders and decided to postpone or cancel the market… or there’s more than one Tafelberg Tavern on Roodehek Terrace (hmmm… I think not).

Now, I do understand that markets can be uncertain beasties, and that sometimes these things happen – launches get delayed, and markets sometimes don’t happen as planned.  That happened to launch of both the Triangle Square Market (postponed by a week) and the Kalk Bay Fresh Etc Market (postponed by a month).

But what I do find annoying is that I’d been in direct contact with the organisers of the Gardens Market, and had asked them to keep me in the loop regarding the event. Additionally, their website still states 29 November 2008 as the launch date, which makes me wonder why they bother to have a website at all.

Hmmmpf!

Anyway, I’m not quite sure what’s up with this one, and I still have high hopes for it, but I think I’ll wait a few weeks before I make the special trip into town again. I hope none of y’all were similarly disappointed!

  1. Oh no… that’s horrible. I so wanted to go but landed up going away for the weekend at the last minute. But I had high hopes of going next Saturday.

  2. That is shocking that there is no notification of postponement. Not a very professional market.

  3. Yeah, not too impressed… anyway, I will email them and see what’s up.

  4. Any word on whether it’s on the go this weekend?

  5. Hi Glen

Nope, it looks like the market won’t be launching just yet, unfortunately. I spoke to the organisers who said they want to launch properly, which I take to mean they haven’t yet found enough vendors to make it a big market… But, they’ve got posters printed and everything else set up, so I guess it won’t be long before they get up and running.

I’ll be sure to keep in touch with them and post info as soon as they do finally launch officially!

The Cape Town leg of the Good Food & Wine Show is back, celebrating a decade of showcasing good food in South Africa and the world. I'm not that clued up on celebrity chefs and what they're famous for, so for me it's more about perhaps finding new producers, tasting interesting new creations and enjoying the general foodie buzz. more
