Taste of Cape Town is just around the corner. If you haven’t yet been, this annual foodie festival is all about giving visitors a chance to sample a whole range of dishes from some of the top restaurants in Cape Town.
Not everyone has the budget to dine at these fine establishments very often (I certainly don’t), so what’s great about Taste of Cape Town is that you can ‘shop around’ and try whatever appeals to you on the festival menu. Each of the 13 restaurants presenting this year will be preparing at least three signature dishes, served from their on-site kitchens.
You can wander about, stopping whenever something looks too good to miss, exploring different flavours and experiences. The smaller size portions allow you to try more from the menu, rather than getting full all at once.
That’s not to say it’s cheap, but this is superb quality food, and you can choose exactly what combinations you want. Dishes range from R20 (4 crowns) to R40 (8 crowns). This year’s menu has been announced, and it looks amazing!
It’s not only about the restaurants, though – there are also a number of other entertainments on offer: demos and workshops at the Chef’s Theatre, interactive canape making (with wine pairing), food and fine brandy pairing and even Thai cooking demos. Plus, there’s a selection of small producers showcasing their local products – a mini-market of sorts.
Taste of Cape Town runs for four days from 19-22 April 2012 at the Green Point Cricket Club. General entry tickets cost R80 (includes a tasting glass), and you buy ‘crowns’ (the festival currency: 1 ‘crown’ = R5) once you’re inside.
No doubt the weekend sessions will be jam-packed, so if you’re like me and don’t like jostling, try to get to the earlier ones.
See you there!
