I’ve been hearing rumours of a new market in Claremont, and it looks like it’s finally become fact!
Here’s what organisers have in store for market-goers:
Visit The Quadrant Market in Claremont this summer for the freshest produce, gourmet food, seasonal items, boutique wine, plants & herbs, arts and crafts, designer clothing or simply come soak up the atmosphere of the vibrant morning market while enjoying some refreshments from the restaurants on the leafy Library square.
Venue: Library Square at The Quadrant, Wilderness Rd, Claremont
Date: every Saturday from 30 October 2010 29 January 2011
Time: 9am-2pm 10am-2pm
Contact: Candice Botha 086 077 7232 or 082 802 2436 or email quadrant@swishevents.co.za
I’m currently in London, on my detoured route back from Terra Madre (more on that soon, to be sure, to be sure), so I haven’t seen it for myself just yet, but I have no doubt I’ll be popping in at this new market as soon as I’m back.

The Cape Town leg of the Good Food & Wine Show is back, celebrating a decade of showcasing good food in South Africa and the world. NO ORGANIC VEGETABLES AVAILABLE. VERY UNHEALTHY PRODUCE AND PRODUCTS FOR SALE. A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT. PEOPLE SLAP AN ORGANIC LABEL TOO EASILY ON ANYTHING THESE DAYS.
Well, I do hope to see it for myself soon, as I’m not sure what you mean by unhealthy? It’s not always easy to source affordable vegetables, and harder still to make sure what you do have you can sell on the day (not everyone will pay the price that organic vegetables so often have), without taking a loss. Perhaps, if the produce isn’t quite up to scratch, given time they will improve on what’s on offer… I certainly hope so!
