Kirstenbosch Craft Market reopens

Kirstenbosch Craft Market reopens

Summer is coming, and the markets that close up shop for the rainy winter months are starting to emerge from hibernation once again.  This Sunday the Kirstenbosch Craft Market holds its first market of the 2010/2011 summer season.  Same time (9am-3pm), same place (Kirstenbosch Stone Cottages), but perhaps not all of the same traders (variety is the spice of life, after all).

It’s a lovely outdoor event, with a variety of crafts and other goods (everything from worm tea to doorstoppers) and a sampling of food stalls.

Whilst you’re in the neighbourhood, you could also pop over to Kirstenbosch Gardens to see the art on display at the Kirstenbosch Biennale (last day of the exhibit, open until 5pm).  The exhibit features botanical art from artists all over the country with a focus this year on rare, endangered and narrow endemic species to Southern Africa.

The Kirstenbosch Craft Market will be held on the last Sunday of every month for the duration of the new summer season (except in December when the market is held twice in the month, not at the end of it).

Event details:
Date: Sunday 26 September 2010. 9am-3pm.
Location: Kirstenbosch Stone Cottages, corner Kirstenbosch Drive and Rhodes Avenue, diagonally opposite the main entrance to Kirstenbosch Gardens.
Cost: Free entry.
Contact: for more info, call Tessa on 021 671 5468.

Dates for 2010: 26 September; 31 October; 28 November; 12 and 19 December.
Dates for 2011: 30 January; 27 Feb; 27 March; 24 April; 29 May; 25 Sept; 30 Oct; 27 Nov; 11 and 18 December.

DISCLAIMER: Please use any event information as a guide only. Whilst every effort is made to ensure the accuracy thereof, things do change – and the best way to make sure something is definitely on is to contact the event organisers themselves. Full bells’n'whistles disclaimer here.

  3. Hi Sue

I’ve just updated that post with the relevant info:
    Dates for 2010: 26 September; 31 October; 28 November; 12 and 19 December.
    Dates for 2011: 30 January; 27 Feb; 27 March; 24 April; 29 May; 25 Sept; 30 Oct; 27 Nov; 11 and 18 December.

  4. What many are not aware of is that all the stall rentals of the Kirstenbosch craft market go to improvements to Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden and related outreach projects. The market is run by the Kirstenbosch branch of the Botanical Society of SA (NPO 003-394) as one of its fundraising projects. So all you BotSoc members, please support it!

  5. How much does it cost to take a table at the market?

    Regards
    Mary
