Sunny Side Up! A visit to Spier’s Biodynamic Farm
Remember that old Farmer Brown ad: 'They taste so good, 'cause they eat so good'? It turns out that a diet of grubs, grass, grain, fresh air and sunshine makes the tastiest chickens of all. On 6 March 2010 a group of Slow Fooders visited Spier to learn more about their biodynamic farming methods. more

There's an exciting new market on the scene... At the end of January, the first Waldorf Night Market was held at the lovely grounds of Waldorf School in Constantia. Earth Fair Mardi Gras Market on this evening

Last CSA for 2009
Being part of a local CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) project has not only provided me with super-fresh, delicious vegetables every week, but also made me feel more connected with where, when and how my food is grown. If you're keen to join what will hopefully be a growing movement supporting small local organic farmers, there's a final opportunity for 2009. The Slow Food CSA is having one last 6-week stint of spring/summer vegetables, and there are still (I believe) a few places left. more

A Walnut addict By Nature
Walnuts are in season. Oh frabjous day! Callooh! Callay! I'm chortling all the way to market... Forgive me, but there is reason for my excitement: it's not just that they're in season, it's because I have found walnuts that match the rather high expectations created by my rather biased childhood memories, and I just can't get enough of them. more
Community Supported Agriculture: Cape Town’s Winter ’09 organic box project
A CSA is a "partnership between an agricultural or artisan producer and a group of consumers. The consumers sponsor the production of a specific crop or product at the beginning of the CSA, and during the season, the producer responds with frequent reports on that crop’s development and growth, and the consumers can visit the producer to learn more about how crop is grown, and even help with the harvest." more
