A weekly pick of what’s on in Cape Town this weekend (and beyond).
All Things Strawberry and Jazz
Saturday 8 November from 9am to 4pm. @ the Stellenbosch Fresh Goods Market
Well, I know what I’m going to doing tomorrow, and that’s going to ‘All Things Strawberry and Jazz’ at the Stellenbosch Fresh Goods Market to find out exactly how versatile the juicy red berries really are.
The event will feature the “best local foods with a strawberry twist”, amongst them strawberry sausage (ahem?), strawberry pesto and strawberry bread (hooohah!).
JOY Market
3-8 November. JOY Market, Love Project shop, 55 Kloof Street Cape Town.
A small community market in a great setting, giving locals the opportunity to support various community projects and meet the people who make a difference while also enjoying festive food and family entertainment.
The market normally runs over one day only, but this special week-long event should give you plenty of time to stock up on Christmas presents (don’t wait until the last minute, and buy local!).
Kirstenbosch Guided Walks.
4-14 November. Kirstenbosch Gardens. Various times.
In celebration of 25 years of volunteer guided tours, Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens is offering special guided walks to visitors. Walks will focus on specific aspects of biodiversity in the gardens.
Walks are free, but normal garden admission applies. They’ll also have night walks, to see the fireflies (dependent on warm, calm weather)! For more info, call 021 799 8783 or download the programme (pdf).
FNB Whisky Live Festival.
5-7 November. Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC)
Tonight is the last night of this annual festival showcasing whisky from around the world. I went on Friday and although I’m not strictly a whisky drinker (and remain unconvinced), it was certainly interesting to find out about the many differences between all the whiskies.
If you like whisky, or are keen to try out a bunch of them to find out, you’ll have a good time… Not too sure about straight whisky (apologies to the connoisseurs), but the whisky cocktails are delicious! R150 a ticket.
Upcoming events to look out for…
- 15 November (Saturday): Launch of the Triangle Square Market - a new fresh produce and gourmet food market for Fish Hoek and surrounds. More info coming soon.
- 23, 30 November: New season of Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts – it’s the start of the 2008/9 summer concert season, yay!
- 29 (Saturday): Launch of The Gardens Market – a new green, organic, holistic, lifestyle market for the city bowl – to be held every Saturday morning from 8am- 3pm at The Tafelburg Tavern, 6 Roodehek Terrace (off Hope St.), Gardens.
.

Hi Sue. I didn’t spot the pesto, but I did find strawberry vinegar, strawberry chilli, strawberry juices, strawberry kebabs, strawberry chocolates and way more. It was divine, and such a beautiful day as well!
Thanks so much for the compliments! It’s so easy to write about all these things, because I just love going to them myself
