Here comes the weekend! What’s on in and around the Mother City (03 October ’08)

My, but there’s a busy weekend ahead… So much to choose from, and only so many hours in a day. And, happily, it looks like the weather will be gracing us with a little sunshine, for a change, so outdoor markets and festivals are the place to hang.  The following are just a few highlights -  check out my events calendar for more.

Rocking the Daisies festival - click to visit websiteRocking The Daisies Festival.

3-5 October. Cloof Estate, Darling.

Our very own eco-friendly music festival, held out amongst the daisies on the West Coast, near Darling (and it might even stay sunny for a change). Party the weekend away to the sounds of awesome local bands as well as international star, Eagle Eye Cherry.

One of many green initiatives this year is that all of the festival’s take-away foods will be served up in Green Home’s biodegradable containers (complete with biodegradable cutlery, too!).

Township Trades at the Joy MarketJOY Market.

Love Project shop, 55 Kloof Street Cape Town (opposite Lifestyles Centre). Saturday 4 October. 9am to 3pm.

A fun little market giving locals the opportunity to “support various community projects and meet the people who make a difference while enjoying festive food and family entertainment.” There’s plenty of good food, and some great crafts (like fabulous home-made soaps from Township Trades).

Holistic Lifestyle Fair

Holistic Lifestyle Fair - ObservatoryObservatory Recreation Centre, corner of Lower Main and Station Roads, Observatory. Sunday 5 October. 10-4pm.

This is one of my favourite monthly stops… a celebration of holistic living in its many and varied forms: from organic and exotic food to funky clothing and trendy décor; from therapeutic massage to life readings.

There’ll be over 160 colourful and creative traders showcasing their lifestyle goods and services indoors and outdoors at what is one of Cape Town’s most unique and oldest markets!

A special happening this weekend is that 4th October is World Animal Day, so visitors get free entry if they bring their (well-behaved) pets to the Fair on Sunday! Adults unaccompanied by a pet pay R8, under-16′s are free. Patrolled parking. For more info call 021 788-8088.
