Well, now. This here’ll be my last ‘what’s on’ post for this year that is almost done and dusted… I might manage a few other bits and pieces in between now and Christmas proper, but after that, it’s off to the virtually internet-free west coast, where I shall avoid all contact with the world for a little while.
But, without further ado, here are a few highlights for the busy weekend ahead, taken from the Mother City Living events calendar.
Wild Country Christmas Party
Friday 19 December. 6pm to 9pm. Wild Trading Store, 34 Salisbury Rd, Woodstock.
Wild Trading Store in Woodstock is holding the second of two festive season night markets. Browse the organic and handmade gifts and drink cocktails whilst enjoying the sounds of 3 More White Guys.
On offer will be festive hampers, organic bottled goods, christmas cakes, mince pies, cheeses, breads, eggs, wine and fresh produce, and a small selection of hand made goods (things like tea cosies, table napkins etc).
Porter Estate Produce Market
Saturday 20 December. 8am-1pm. Chrysalis Academy, Tokai.
This fabulous outdoor market is having a Christmas-themed month. Special events include treasure hunts for toddlers, busking musicians to keep visitors entertained, and every market day will feature the raffling off delicious prizes (final raffle on the 20th). To fit it all in, the market will open an hour early (ie from 8am) to give visitors more time to shop before it gets too hot. (market info)
Kirstenbosch Christmas Craft Market
Sunday 21 December. 9am to 3pm. Stone Cottages, corner of Kirstenbosch/Rhodes Drives.
For those of you who’ve left the gift-buying a little late (don’t we all), the Kirstenbosch Craft Market is a great place to pick up hand-made presents.
Even if you’re going the no-gift Christmas route, the market has a wonderful atmosphere, and great food, and is a fun way to spend a morning.
Holistic Lifestyle Fair
Sunday 21 December 10am-4pm. Obs Recreation Centre, corner of Lower Main and Station roads, Observatory.
This colourful fair is normally held on the first Sunday of the month, but this Sunday’s will be a Special Christmas event. So, if you’re in the mood for finding alternative gifts, or fancy a tarot reading for the year ahead, this one’s for you.
Rondebosch Craft Fair
Saturday 20 December and Tuesday 23 December. Rondebosch Park, Crn’s Campground & Sandown Roads, Rondebosch.
The Rondebosch Craft Market will be on tomorrow Saturday the 20th of December from 9am to 2pm. And, additionally, they’ll be having an evening market on Tuesday the 23rd of December, from 3pm to 9pm.
A fun way to find hand-made local gifts for friends and family, whilst spending time outdoors (and dodging malls).
