Inspired by the onset of autumn, this page is for all the fabulous winter specials in Cape Town: the ones that make the long expensive tourist-ridden summer almost bearable for us locals…
From special winter menus at the Harbour House, to discounted rates at wonderful places like Monkey Valley – I want to list them all!
This year (2010), I’ve been rather busy, though, so haven’t had quite as much time to source the winter specials myself, so whilst I’ve listed some below, you might find the following sources more useful:
Table Mountain Cableway’s family winter special runs until Sunday October 31, and offers fun activities for the entire family. Two kids under 18 years travel free when accompanied by a full-paying adult. This special is valid over weekends, public holidays, from May 1 until October 31, 2010 and the school holidays (10 June to 12 July, and 24 September to 3 October).
Table Mountain Café offers a delicious Kiddies Wonderland Menu for R30 that includes a free cup of hot chocolate or fruit juice.
The Cableway’s Family Winter Special ticket price R160 per adult return and includes two children under 18 years travelling free (normal child rate R80). Valid on return fares only. The Cableway operates weather permitting. For information visit www.tablemountain.net or call (021) 424 8181.
South African adults aged 18 years or older can claim a free return ride on the cable car on the day of their birthday. Just bring your SA ID and show it at the ticket office.
The Cableway will be closed for annual maintenance from 23rd to 27th August and will reopen for business on 28 August 2010 if weather permits. Anyone (South African adults aged 18 years or older) celebrating their birthday during our maintenance period has the privilege of making use of the Birthday Special 1 week before or one week after the maintenance period..
