To eat meat, or not to eat meat – is that the question, or is there more to it than either or? In my view, we need to find a more balanced path to reducing our impact on the planet than overnight global vegetarianism, but there are those who disagree…
Breadline Africa is a local charity that is doing really good work in our country and beyond. They’re involved in a range of projects across Southern Africa, all aimed at helping communities become sustainable and enabling them to help themselves.
It’s summer in the city (or very nearly) and that means it’s time for afternoons spent lazily lunching on lawns, soaking up our bountiful Cape sunshine. Over the next few weeks we’ll be bringing you a collation of the many picnic opportunities our city and its surrounds has to offer… And this week we’re focusing on laid-back, laid-on lunch picnics on wine estates.
‘Tis very nearly the balmy month of February, and the ever-so balmy suburb of Constantia is, in my opinion, a particularly lovely place to spend the late afternoons and evenings. So, I’m very much looking forward to the start, this coming Friday, of a new night market at the Constantia Waldorf School.
Well, I’m always on the lookout for new markets, and it seems there’ll be one coming to Kloof Street this February.
A new summer CSA is on the cards for 2010. This one will run for 10 weeks (Tuesday 26 January through Tuesday 30 March) and in addition to the uber-fresh organic vegetables members will receive every week, the deliveries will also include mushrooms and preserves from other sustainable food producers and projects.
The delicious delights of Eggs Benedict and biodynamic bubbly
Posted on 18. Jan, 2010 by Pia Taylor.
Would ya look at this beauty? I found this delectable eggs benedict not at a fancy restaurant or cafe but at market! At the Earth Fair Market in Tokai, to be exact. Two eggs, perfectly poached, on top of a potato and onion rosti, crispy streaky bacon, topped with a hollandaise sauce. Add a glass of Avondale’s biodynamic bubbly to the picture and you have, folks, what I consider a perfect Saturday morning!
